At the Clinic

Prenatal and postpartum care is provided at our beautiful clinic in Port Moody. Get directions to our office: 306-2502 St. Johns Street.

Hospital Births

We are delighted to care for labouring clients and deliver babies at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster. RCH is well-known for its high-quality care, both for low-risk and higher-risk patients. And although we always hope to not need their services, RCH’s NICU is one of the best in Canada!

Homebirth Support

Both the Blue and Purple teams at Inlet Birth offer and support planned homebirth as a safe choice. See the College of Midwives of BC’s Place of Birth Handbook to read about place of birth guidelines and decision-making. If you are considering homebirth, this article from UBC about the safety of homebirth in BC is a great place to start!

Postpartum home visits

Both the Blue and Purple teams at Inlet Birth offer postpartum home visits for the first week after your baby is born if your address is in our catchment area. If you don’t live in our catchment area (Port Coquitlam, Coquitlam, Port Moody, north-east New Westminter, east Burnaby or west Pitt Meadows), your care provider will discuss meeting at our clinic for postpartum visits.

Our Programs

Community Birth Program

Inlet Birth’s Purple team provides collaborative, interdisciplinary care. The Purple team is comprised of a larger team of midwives, family physicians, and nurses who provide interdisciplinary care to clients. Purple team midwives and family physicians are on call for deliveries in 12- or 24-hour shifts. Purple team clients will be offered either group-based care in the Connecting Pregnancy model, or individual visits.

Midwifery Care

Inlet Birth’s Blue team provides standard-model midwifery care. The Blue team is a small team of midwives that provide shared care to a smaller caseload of clients. Blue team clients will be cared for by their midwives in individual visits, and whichever Blue team midwife is on call the day that you give birth will attend you in labour.

Postpartum Drop-in Care

Beginning in December 2018, we will be offering weekly postpartum drop-in care for mothers and newborns, with a focus on feeding support. You do not need to be a client of Inlet Birth to see us for postpartum care—we are available to care for you and your baby any time from birth until 12 weeks postpartum. Call or e-mail us to book an appointment!

Inlet Community Birth Program rests on the traditional and unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. We are grateful to have the opportunity to work in this territory.
